RYA North East Affiliated Clubs Conference 2019
Saturday 30th November 2019
Leeds Trinity University, Brownberrie Lane, Horsforth, leeds, LS18 5HD

About the conference

The day is a fantastic opportunity for you to meet and network with other clubs, share ideas and success stories and discuss the current issues that are having an impact, both in clubs and the sport more widely. Places for this conference are free with lunch and refreshments provided at no cost. Due to limited capacity pre-booking is essential, so get in early to avoid disappointment.

This year's conferences are about 'Putting people first'. That means understanding what your members, volunteers and new sailors need, and putting that at the forefront of your decision making. Whether you want to grow your membership, increase your volunteer base, develop your instructors and race coaches or simply get better at retaining members of all ages, interests and abilities, you will leave with the ideas and information you need to make it happen.

The events include regional updates, guest speakers, and a suite of workshops and update sessions focusing on the key areas of your region's RYA Regional Plan, plus time for plenty of networking to ensure you get as much out of your day as possible. Find out too about the latest volunteer research the RYA has been conducting, as well as hearing lots of interesting case studies from clubs like yours.

Take a look at the conference agenda for the full range of workshops and speakers. This event is perfect for committee members, and we would love to see at least two people from each club come along. It would also be great if one of your club contingent could be an Affiliated Clubs Conference first-timer. If you would like more than four people from your club to attend please email Sam Usher to confirm availability.

The day will be hosted by your Regional Development Officer Sam Usher and if you have any questions about the event please do not hesitate to drop them an email to
sam.usher@rya.org.uk

We look forward to seeing you!

An exploration of the balance around professionalism vs maintaining a strong volunteer ethos.

We know that sailing can have a powerful impact on young people and can help them to develop and grow. This session will explore how we can create a programme to deliver sessions that maximise the impact of our sport.
The RYA is principally a membership organisation which exists to fight for it member's rights of public navigation.  How can we do more to support you and your club's needs and wants now and into the future?  We want to know your thoughts as we prepare for our next 2021 - 25 strategy period
Advice on the variety of sources of funding available to clubs and top tips for writing a successful bid
Round 2
Please select one option for your second session 13:30-14:30
The RYA is committed on behalf of its members, to addressing environmental concerns and to helping recreational boating contribute to sustainability. This interactive workshop will begin with a brief presentation on the latest science and government policies, and what they mean for the future. We will then go on to discuss how individuals and clubs can best plan to address sustainability issues and have the greatest impact for the least cost.
Attracting and retaining non-sailing families can be challenging. In this session we will explore what we can do to support this important group.
An opportunity to explore sources of funding you can generate yourself.
An opportunity to share your clubs challenges with the RYA Legal team and other clubs.
Research suggests people's propensity to volunteer hasn't changed but they want to volunteer has changed.  They're now working online, seeking flexible schedules and seeking more autonomy and ownership of projects.  They don't anymore want to make a contribution, they want to make a difference!  Learn how to adapt your volunteer management practices to cater for this new type of volunteer.
The cruising community is growing so  ensuring your club is setup for a diverse motivation of members is becoming more important.
Round 3
Please select one option for your third session 15:00-16:30
This session will highlight focus on the development opportunities the RYA offer for coaches and instructors and sharing how clubs and centres develop their coaches and instructors
People remember good stories, not lots of facts. In this workshop, you will learn how to create case studies about the difference sailing has made to the lives of your members, and the ways you can use these compelling stories to target, reach and connect with new audiences.
Chance to identify the key components of a successful junior club and discover what support is available for junior club coordinators.
