RYA South Regional Training Day: Senior Instructor Development
Wednesday 9th September, 09:30-16:30
Andrew Simpson Centre, Eastern Road, Portsmouth, PO3 5LY
Come and join us for a tailored day of learning, development, and professional growth.
This Regional Training Day is designed to support current Senior Instructors in developing their instructional skills and enhancing their personal effectiveness. Senior Instructors play a key role in developing and influencing their instructor teams, and this requires the ability to observe, support, and guide others with clarity and confidence.
With a focus on the RYA Single-Handed Method, the day will explore and refine your ability to move from delivering sessions yourself to taking a supervisory and mentoring role that enables instructors to create and deliver high-quality learning environments. Using core skills and practical scenarios, we will look at how to shape instructor delivery, support decision-making, and build consistency across your team through effective conversation.
By the end of the day, you will:
• Understand how to move from “fixing sessions” to developing instructors
• Deliver clear briefings that enables effective session planning and delivery
• Confidently observe and analyse instructor delivery to identify key learning points
• Deliver debriefings that provide clear, constructive feedback leading to meaningful improvement
• Use questioning techniques to develop instructor thinking and decision-making
With an emphasis on personal development, sessions will be adapted to participants’ ability levels, prevailing conditions, and available equipment. You will be actively encouraged to contribute to session planning, helping to maximise relevance and learning throughout the day.
If you have any questions about the event, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind regards
