Skin Cancer - Spot it Early presented by John Wilson

Cruising Instructor and Disaster Response Nurse John Wilson was just 41 when an unexpected hospital scan revealed stage 4 skin cancer.

Now undergoing treatment, he is preparing to sail around the UK, offering free skin checks and raising awareness along the way.

Hear what John wishes every sailor knew: what to look for, the spots we can’t see ourselves, why time on the water increases our risk, and the simple habit that once saved his life.

Fit to Teach? Preventing pain or injury for practical instructors presented by Matthew Garfath

Teaching on the water is physically demanding, but the impact on instructors is often overlooked. This practical session explores how workload, technique, equipment, environment and recovery can affect musculoskeletal health and teaching performance.

Attendees will learn how to recognise early warning signs, reduce unnecessary strain, build physical resilience and adapt their teaching practices to stay healthy and fit to teach.

Safety Management - From Incident to Insight presented by Robbie Bell and Niall McLeod Friday, February 19, 2027 11:15 AM - 12:15 PM
