Aim:

The Aspirant Senior Instructor Academy aims to support and encourage currently qualified RYA instructors to progress to the role of Senior Instructor. This initiative will provide guidance, mentoring, and development to help instructors enhance their skills, gain confidence, and feel more equipped to take part in the RYA Senior Instructor when they feel ready.

 

Measures of success:

1. Supporting qualified RYA instructors in their journey to becoming Senior Instructors.

2. Provide resources, mentorship and development in a safe and inclusive environment.

 

Who:

Current RYA Instructors who are interested in working towards becoming an RYA instructor.

 

How:

This will be delivered over 2 online training sessions delivered by RYA Trainers. Each session will last approximately 45 minutes and have some interaction. After the second session participants will be signposted to sessions run through their individual regions which support the online sessions. This will look different in each region.

 

Session 1: 7pm on Wednesday 21st January.

The Role of a Senior Instructor – Overview of the Senior Instructor responsibilities including busting myths around the role, key competencies, and expectations of the course.

 

Session 2: 7pm on Wednesday 28th January.

A Senior Instructor is a Role Model Instructor: This session will explore how being a role model Dinghy Instructor positively impacts the ability to carry out the role of a Senior Instructor. This session will help participants reflect on the qualities and behaviours that make them a strong instructor and how these attributes and experience support them in the Senior Instructor role.

Terms and Conditions for RYA Courses & Events 2025
1. GENERAL This event/course is organised by the RYA. The RYA reserves the right to decline an application to attend. The RYA or Course Coordinator may exclude a candidate from a particular session or request the candidate leave the course/event/premises if the candidate misconducts themselves or causes damage or annoyance to others. If you are displaying symptoms of Covid-19 or are required to self-isolate, you will not attend the course. 2. RISK STATEMENT It must be recognised that water activities are by nature unpredictable and therefore inherently involve an element of risk. By taking part in the course, you agree and acknowledge that: (i) You are aware of the inherent element of risk involved in the activity and you accept responsibility exposing yourself to such inherent risk whilst taking part ; (ii) You will comply at all times with the instruction of the course/session co-ordinator and particularly with regard to handling of boats, wearing of buoyancy aids, wearing of suitable clothing for the conditions and actions related to creating a Covid secure environment; (iii) You accept responsibility for any injury, damage or loss to the extent caused by your own negligence; (iv) You will not participate in the course whilst your ability (v) you understand that due to the nature of the activity it may not always be possible to maintain social distance. (v) The provision of safety boat cover is limited to such assistance, as can be practically provided in the circumstances; (vi) You are aware of any specific risks drawn to your attention by the Course Co-ordinator. 3. CANCELLATIONS Every attempt will be made to ensure the event runs. However, the RYA reserves the right to cancel or re arrange the event at any time where it believes there are reasonable grounds to do so. The RYA may reschedule or rearrange the event as an alternative to cancelling. In such cases your booking shall be transferred to the rearranged event, if this date and time is not convenient the RYA will refund booking fees paid. If the RYA cancels, postpones or re arranges the event the RYA will not be liable for any cost or loss you may incur as a result. You may cancel your booking at any time up to 14 days before the event by emailing joanne.wait@rya.org.uk. Due to the irrecoverable costs incurred by the RYA in staging the event, the RYA may deduct a reasonable sum from your booking fee to cover such costs. If you cancel your booking within 14 days of the start of the event no refund will be paid, as the service will be regarded as having commenced in preparing for the event. 4. MEDICAL / ACCESS REQUIREMENTS / DIETARY REQUIREMENTS If you are displaying symptoms of Covid-19 or are required to self-isolate, you agree you will not attend the course. I confirm that I have given the medical information, access requirements and/or dietary requirements listed above for the purposes of my participation in the Course. I understand this information will only be used for that purpose that it may be shared with third parties running the event and will be retained for as long as necessary to comply with the organiser/RYA’s legal obligations. 5. REGISTRATION CONFIRMATION A booking confirmation will be sent to you by email at the time of booking. If you do not receive the booking confirmation within 24 hours, please check your spam folder. If you still do not have the booking confirmation, please contact joanne.wait@rya.org.uk 6. PHOTOGRAPHY AND FILMING We may take photographs and video footage of the course for use by us in connection with the promotion of us and our activities. If you do not want your image used in this way, please e-mail joanne.wait@rya.org.uk. 7. DATA PROTECTION The information given by you on this form will be used by us to process your registration and for attending to you whilst you are at the course. The legal basis for processing this information is contract. Information may be shared with the venue, or third parties associated with the course or event when it is necessary to do so, and you recognise that such these third parties may contact you in connection with the course or event when it is believed to be in your interest to do so. Information held by the RYA will be used and stored in accordance with the RYA privacy policy, which is available at https://www.rya.org.uk/compliance/privacy-security-and-data-protection/ 8. AGREEMENT By submitting an application for this course or event I confirm that I have read and accept these booking conditions.
