An SRC Assessor is able to train and examine for the UKs Marine Radio Short Range certificate. It is important that assessor candidates have a detailed understanding of Marine VHF communication, backed up with practical experience afloat.
2. Hold the Teaching in the Classroom certificate or one of the exempted teaching qualifications:
- Yachtmaster™ Instructor
- Coach Assessors in the Dinghy, Keelboat ande Multihull Schemes
- Trainers in the Windsurfing, Powerboat, Personal Watercraft and Inland Waterways Schemes
- Holders of a valid subject-specific RYA Shorebased Instructor Certificate
- Holders of a professional teaching qualification such as PGCE or CertEd
- Holders of IMO Train the Trainer 6.09
3. One of the following
-
RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence, or
-
An RYA practical instructor certificate in any discipline, or
-
Prior approved alternative qualifications that imply the candidate has credibility as an experienced boater.
On the following pages you will be asked to provide your personal details, emergency contact details and evidence of your eligibility before making a payment. You will also be asked to upload a passport sized photo and provide your RYA membership/ reference number if known. Please ensure you have all this to hand before proceeding.

You will need to prepare a 15 minute lesson for delivery during your course and below is a list of subjects to choose from. None of these subjects can be covered fully in 15 minutes so you need to decide the specific elements of the subject you wish to cover. Set two to three key outcomes for the lesson and then plan according. Include the assumed knowledge of the students in your plan. If you have already chosen a lesson for the Teaching in the Classroom course please ensure you choose a different subject. If a subject has "FULL" beside it, someone else attending the course has already selected it, please choose a different option.
